A netizen named Alexah Dela Austria posted on her Facebook account some photos of Grade 7 students fetching water from a deep well and washing some rugs.
This situation made her ask, “Ano nga ba ang tungkulin at dapat isaalang-alang ng isang mag-aaral sa paaralan?”
She pitied the students needed to carry some water to their school which was far from the deep well where they get their water. For Austria, this was too much to ask from these students since they already looked tired to attend their class.
“Nakakaawa kasi halos Grade 7 ang mga ito at ang liliit pa nila para magtabo at dadalhin sa school ang tubig,” aniya.
At first, these students used to fetch water at the river when they still don’t know that there is a deep well that is much closer from the school. The river is also quite far from the school.
Asking the student who told them to do these things, she was told that it was their teachers in school.
“Ganito ba talaga ang daily routine nila sa buhay? Ang agap nila pumasok para mag-aral hindi para mag-igib at utus-utusan ng kung anu-anong hindi na naaayon sa pag-aaral.”
Her post received mixed reactions from netizens. Some say it’s a way to help these students to develop self-discipline and to be responsible.
“Tinuturuan yan para maging responsible.. lam moh teh, kung meron tubig sa loob ng iskul nila.. Hindi naman yan papadayuhin ng teacher na mag-igib…”
“Sabi nga nila ang school ang pangalawang tahanan at ang titser ang magulang…merun din naman sila matutunan sa ganyan,.teamwork,pkikipag kaibigan..and more.just saying..”
Some felt pity for the students and worried about their safety when they go out of the school to fetch water without any guardians.
“Kung wala silang kasamang guardian jan. Masyadong risky dahil ang alam ng mga magulang nila nasa loob sila ng school. Pag anak ko ang ganyan at panatag ako na nasa loob ng school tapos yun pala pinalalabas nila, kakasuhan ko teacher nila. okay sana kung sa loob din ng school nila yan gawin,pero pag lumabas ng school madaming hindi magagandang bagay ang pwedeng mangyari.”
This kind of situation is not new in the public schools especially those in rural and mountain schools. Usually, they have problems with water and electric connections, that is why they would ask the help of some students to fetch water needed to maintain their the cleanliness in their respective schools.
Solving this problem might need the help of the stakeholder of the school which includes the barangay officials, General Parent- Teachers Association Officers (GPTA Officers), Local Government and Non-Government Unit to planned out on how to solve problem on the water supply of the school so these students don’t have to suffer with fetching water and maintain their cleanliness in schools.
