The world seems to be getting stranger these days.
Apparently, the latest beauty trend among women involves growing armpit hair then dying it in pastel color.
Women from all walks of life are not afraid to show off their coloured pit hairs on social media sites such as Instagram and Tumblr. Ladypithair, an Instagram page which features women flaunting their armpit hair has over 2,000 followers. Some of the women in the page showcased their pastel-coloured pits.
Instagram user and Ladypithair founder Anna Biotics said the trend has been around for a while.
So why follow this strange beauty trend?
Anna explained: “Why not? It’s definitely part of an alternative culture that’s doing something different, but most people just do it for fun because they can.”
Based on Anna’s observation, most women who dye their locks in pastel colour tend to colour their pit hair with the same shade.
However, there are setbacks to the armpit hair dyeing process.
“If you use bleach that’s too strong, it burns. The dye gets everywhere. Every time your armpits sweat, you get colored pit stains,” she added.
How the trend started
According to Truth Revolt, the unusual beauty trend started when Seattle salon stylist Roxie Hunt shared an article detailing the steps in dyeing armpit hair in the blog Offbeat Home & Life. Her work quickly became viral with over 33,000 shares as of writing.
She wrote in the blog: “I have always wanted to color someone’s pit hair. I have actually done it once, but It was a late night with too much wine and without the proper tools available. I asked my co-worker Rain if she would be down to let me dye her pit hair blue to match her hair color and she agreed, heartily.”
