For the past years, President Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly threatened to block the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN. But after ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak apologized to the president, Duterte accepted the apology as he is thinking the welfare of ABS-CBN Corp. workers.

In 2017, the president threatened to block the franchise renewal of the ABS-CBN that is set to expire this year because his campaign ads did not all air. He accused the network of Estafa.

“Yes. If you’re like that, you are engaged in swindling. For all you know, how many companies paid you and you did not air it?” he said.

If ABS-CBN would just swindle people, he would have to stop it, he added.

During the Senate hearing last February 24, ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak apologized to the president for not airing the ad. On February 26, the president accepted the apology.

On Thursday, February 27, Deputy House Speaker Rose Marie “Baby” Arenas said that the president is thinking of the welfare 11,000 thousand workers of the ABS-CBN Corp.
“Malaking tulong ang naibahagi ng karanasan ng Pangulo sa usapin ng prangkisa ng ABS-CBN upang ito ay maging tulay sa makabuluhang pagbabago,” Arenas said.
She also said that the president is merciful and understanding by nature who also thinks of the welfare of the 11,000 workers of the ABS-CBN.
“Alam natin na ang Pangulo ay likas na maawain, maunawain at higit ang malasakit sa kapakanan ng mga mahihirap, kabilang ang mga pamilyang umaasa sa 11,000 manggagawa ng ABS-CBN Group.”
In response to Duterte’s acceptance of apology, the ABS-CBN Corp. said it was “grateful and humbled” as they committed to “becoming a better organization and to continue to provide more meaningful service to Filipinos.”
